Review Summary of Mamaison Hotel Andrassy, 5 star boutique hotelMamaison Hotel Andrassy Budapest guest reviews show that most of the hotel guests think the staff are very good ('nothing is too much trouble' 'gracious, attentive' 'incredibly friendly'), and that it was a real five-star welcome to be greeted with a bottle of chilling champagne. Visitors feel especially safe in Andrassy Hotel in Budapest due to the fact that the hotel is located in the quiet neighbourhood of embassies. Breakfast was great for some, while a disappointment for others (similarly to the air-conditioning). One guest mentioned that the design of the restaurant seems to be slightly oppressive with the black net curtains, others praised the quality of food (adding that prices match the quality). Several rooms have charming balconies if you like sitting in the fresh air, or if you are a smoker preferring to smoke outside. As for room style, one guest wrote "it has the feeling of a smart, upmarket business hotel rather than a boutique," while another 4th-floor guest expected "one of the rooms as shown on the website/brochures for the hotel - ie soft pastel shades highlighted with stronger colours - the new rooms are in neutral shades." City centre is a quick ride with the yellow metro, which is "very regular, clean and cheap and takes you to the centre of town in a few minutes."
TripAdvisor on Mamaison Hotel Andrassy Budapest boutique hotel
"A delightful introduction to Budapest! We arrived weary from a long flight and were greeted with a bottle of chilling champagne in our room. The hotel is beautifully located - on Embassy Row, and a short block away from Hero's Square. Our room was spacious, well appointed, very comfortable AND had a charming outdoor balcony with a table and two chairs. The staff were gracious, attentive and helpful and made us feel very welcome. We have already recommended the hotel to several friends who are planning a trip to Budapest. The Andrassy well deserves its place among the small boutique hotels of the world."
"We stayed at the Andrassy Hotel and we loved it. We think that the hotel is very well located, we could go easily and quick to the center of the city but as well we could use the nice city park, which is right next to the hotel. Ideal for early morning's jogging, just in the heart of the city. We loved the nice atmosphere in the rooms and the whole hotel. The staff was incredibly friendly and helped us with everything! The reception staff for example arranged our tickets to the Van Gogh exhibition in advance. Our room was very quiet, what we really enjoyed! The housekeeping girls were so nice, too! You can really feel the difference in a small hotel. The staff knows you, always calls you by your name and is always really nice to you !"
"It was a quick ride on the nearby subway down to the centre of town, a decent meal and a quick return for a late night drink before retiring to review some work for the next day. I awoke refreshed. A very nice hotel and superb staff. Disliked: Couldn't get dessert past 2200"
"The hotel is towards the far end of Andrassy Avenue in a quietish area surrounded by embassies, close to Heroes' Square. We had hesitated about the location, a little way out of the centre, but the staff were very helpful explaining how to get around and the underground system (and public transport in general) was relatively easy to use, so we felt this was not at all a problem. The rooms in the hotel are furnished in a smart way, with everything that could be expected, but it has the feeling of a smart, upmarket business hotel rather than a boutique. The one area we were less than inspired by was the restaurant. Draped with black net curtains, it came across as achingly trendy in the evening (when it serves Asian fusion), and oppressive in the morning. The buffet breakfast was adequate but nothing more for this standard of property. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and felt the staff were very good and helpful. We would consider staying here again if we were in Budapest, but wouldn't go out of our way specifically to stay in this hotel.
"The staff at the Andrassy (said "Andraschy" if you are going) are very helpful, friendly and professional and are a credit to the hotel. As others have noted, you are greeted with a glass of sparkling wine on arrival which is a nice touch. The beds are also turned down each evening. The hotel restaurant and lobby are very modern and pleasant. Our room was a decent size (25sqm - a superior room, judging by our floor plan, most are "superior"), as was the bathroom. The bathroom was in pretty good repair and clean - but there were a few cracked tiles and the shower curtain was not that new - not five star to my mind, but that's the worst you can say about it. The bed was comfortable and large. The minibar is stocked with all you'd reasonably want. The hotel itself is on Andrassy Ave which is a busy road. We'd asked (on booking) for a quiet room, but were located on the road side (only noisy if the window was open). It's perhaps 100 or so metres from the Metro station which is very regular, clean and cheap and takes you to the centre of town in a few minutes (easy to get tickets too). We never thought it was too far from the centre. Would I recommend it? Yes. Would I describe it as a luxury 5* hotel? In parts. However, it is less expensive that the Four Seasons Gresham, one of its rivals in the centre of town."
"We chose this hotel from the reviews on this site and were not disappointed considering such high praise. The level of service is fantastic - the staff does whatever they can to make your stay better. The location is very nice in a quiter area on Embassy Row. The metro line is very close and easy to use. Get a multi day pass your first visit from the cashier. Wonderful hotel - very much look forward to staying here again."
"We spent three days in Budapest at the Andrassy Hotel and were most pleased with our accomodation. We booked a superior room with balcony, which was quite sufficient in size, very comfortable and outfitted with all the amenities one expects at a hotel of this quality. We have never encountered a more friendly or helpful hotel staff. They were always pleasant and ready to meet our every need. The Andrassy's location at the top of Andrassy Utca, a few blocks from Heroes Square is a big plus in our opinion. It is in a posh area, very quiet and peaceful, where many of the old mansions house embassies. The entrance to the subway is at the foot of Heroes Square. Five minutes to downtown!"
"We spent 5 days in Andrassy as part of our honeymoon trip. The hotel is on the famous Andrassy street at waling distance from the metro station (don't miss the Millenium subwsay, it is an interesting experience). The location is quiet and elegant, better suited for business travels. The room itself is large and pretty, with nice-big bathroom. The staff was helpful and gave us good recommendations for the Sechenyi baths (the city guides are very confusing on the opening hours, so better check with the concierge as we almost missed it). We ordered breakfast in bed and were very dissapointed by its quality. They forgot to bring the bread initially and when they did, it was not fresh and the fruit was not fresh either. It is definitely not worth the price."
"I read the reviews before staying at the Andrassy Hotel and was secretly expecting to be disappointed, it got such rave reviews, but I have to say that the reviewers were right. This is really one of the most wonderful hotels in the world. The staff are, I think, the stand out here. Friendly, helpful, nothing is too much trouble. the hotel is in a good part of town, restaurants nearby, and sights as well. The hotel provides maps on arrival, as well as tokaj. This hotel deserves its reputation for luxury."
"Thanks to helpful reviews and recommendations from posters on the Budapest forum, the Andrassy was the perfect choice for me. Location excellent in such an attractive wide tree-lined boulevard with beautiful Austro-Hungarian villas and buildings... Booked the Cultural Package (excellent value) which entitled me to a DeLuxe double room - these are situated on the 4th floor above the front entrance on a leafy residential side street. Balcony, table, chairs, window boxes - shame about the torrential rain for the duration of the trip! Views right across Budapest. 4th floor now completely renovated - I expected one of the rooms as shown on the website/brochures for the hotel - ie soft pastel shades highlighted with stronger colours - the new rooms are in neutral shades which probably are more to the taste of businessmen? Room comfortable, good lighting, everything I could want - only one suggestion and applicable only to ladies - no sockets near the large mirror above the 'dressing table' with stool. Further along two sockets by phone and table lamp - but no mirror. Therefore I had to plug my hair styler and straighteners in a socket by the bed and sit on the bed to see in the mirror!"
"As part of the package, there was a bottle of white Tokai in a wine bucket in the room, with corkscrew and two glasses, maps, booklets, Budapest card for the three days, ticket for a concert (Opera season started only end of the week), and a large hardbacked coffee table book of photographs of Budapest. Bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in (apart from Marriotts), turned down with the obligatory chocolate, roomy soft bathrobe, towelling slippers and mat. Large TV with pay movie channels. Crisp white bedlinen - with individual duvets. Wardrobe has safe, plenty of wooden hangers (removable thank goodness!), including those with skirt/trouser hooks. Shoe cleaning cloth, sewing kit, extra pillows, blankets. Liked the bathroom - although might be difficult to access the shower for someone infirm - you need to climb in the bath and walk up to the taps/shower end as this is partially encased by a tiled solid screen/wall. Plenty of toiletries - in fact even when not used a fresh supply added each day - shampoo, shower gel, body lotion, bath crystals, comb, shower cap, shaving kit, tissues, cotton wool/cotton buds pack, soaps - all French toiletries. Decent sized bath towels, hand towels, face cloths, mats. Large washbasin with plenty of room on sides to put all my toiletries and cosmetics. Also glass shelving for extra storage. Hairdryer, shaving mirror, good lighting - everything a woman could want and need! Service I found friendly and efficient without being obsequious. Before going into breakfast the first morning I asked for an iron and ironing board - they were in the room when I returned - a large stable board with metallic cover and a good steam iron. (pity the weather didn't allow me to wear the white linen!)."
"Have read comments as to the not good value for money breakfasts in these reviews, but breakfasts were included in my package, and so I didn't give this much thought. Also I don't eat hot cooked breakfasts, and so found the selection perfect for my tastes - cereal, two muesli mixes, prunes, apricots, bowls of fresh fruits - melon slices, pineapple slices, kiwi, grapefruit rings, orange rings, grapes - bio-yoghurts natural and fruit, platters of various hams, salami, smoked salmon, platters of cheeses, croissants, rolls, granary, seeded breads, etc. Jugs of various fruit juices, tea and coffee - for me a wonderful selection. Service excellent."
"Housekeeping spotless and unobtrusive, reception/concierge efficient and nothing too much trouble. ...There are two computers and a printer in a secluded corner off the lobby which I was able to use at any time, not having brought my laptop. Service was impeccable - friendly, welcoming and I found this a comfortable and relaxing place to stay - especially for a woman alone."
"It's difficult to describe this place without sounding like an advertisement. Greeted with Champaigne, hotel staff very friendly and accomodating. They greatly assisted us in our lost baggage. Otherwise everything is new and "boutiquey". Very close to the underground and within walking distance to a couple art museums and the park with natural spa. The main areas of dining are only a few stops away including the Danube on the underground. The area is very safe with all sorts of embassys around. I would definately return."
"Located in a quiet side street off the Andrassy Boulevard lies this fabulous Budapest hotel. I have never stayed in a hotel in a major European city which welcomes its guests with a glass of champagne with a genuine warmth from the staff. Nothing is too much trouble for the guys at reception and they know you by name. The rooms are tastefully decorated and they have real style. Our room had a balcony, although it was far too hot to sit out and enjoy the view of the embassy across the street with its lovely architecture. The air conditioning in the room is excellent. It was well tested during our stay when temperatures exceeded 40 degrees every day and never fell below 30 at night! The only disappointment at the Andrassy is breakfast. The 20 euro buffet was pretty average. The choice was limited and the orange juice came from a carton (never a good sign!) After a couple of days we found a cafe just around the corner (turn left at the hotel and take the second street on the left!)"
"Price great through discount site. Very nice hotel. Great Staff!!. Good location on Embassy Row. Quite residencial area behind the hotel with great little restaurants. Close to metro, easy to access the rest of Budapest. Only complaint: pillows were lumpy."
"My wife and I discovered the Hotel Andrassy through the Fodor's Guide to Budapest, where it is recommended as the finest of the city's hotels. I whole-heartedly second that recommendation for any couple wishing to make a romantic getaway to one of the world's most beautiful cities. We spent only one night at the Andrassy, but we wish we could have stayed longer. It ranks among the very finest hotels we've stayed at. While expensive, it is quite a bit more affordable than hotels of similar quality we've stayed at."
"We found the staff very attentive. The front office manager even remembered our names. The staff let us check in early without even mentioning the issue. They marked maps with helpful information, arranged dinner reservations, held luggage, and mailed postcards for us. They were all very friendly, and their English-language skills excellent. One last thing I should mention: the breakfast at the attached restaurant, Baraka, is well worth purchasing as part of your reservation or upon your arrival. The breakfast is fresh, abundant, and satisfying."
"Between the service in the restaurant and the hotel staff, it was pure effortless as to requests being met, the rooms were comfortable and spacious, and the weather really could be enjoyed on the balcony. 20 mins from a train station, from a main high street with shops clubs and bars, and a stringt of museums, unbelievable location and value for money."
"Our stay at the Andrassy was an excellent experience. The staff could not have been more helpful. We upgraded the room which was of an excellent standard and well worth the extra minimal cost - only slight problem was air conditioning could have been colder. Was greeted on arrival by name and offered an ice cold glass of champagne. What a start ! I could not recommend this hotel more highly. The metro and most attractions were very close which meant very little time was wasted travelling to places. Would recommend the sight seeing bus as a starter then use the metro. Everything is excellent value. Air conditioning not cold enough"
>"I stay here frequently for work. I used to think it was too far from the action, and in a way I still do. But it is a really good property, service is usually very good, the area is lovely and quiet, with easy access to the fine arts museum, heroe's square, etc. Value for money here is very high. Rooms are large. Ask for a balcony on the street side, it's still quiet, and you get great sun all afternoon. No pool, but a great old baths just a five minute walk away."
"This was my first stay at Andrassy. As with other properties run by Orco, I had a wonderful experience. My flight was delayed, so I did not arrive at the hotel until after 1am. A driver was waiting for me at the airport, the staff at the hotel were polite and welcoming on arrival, and my room was ready, with the bed turned down and a chocolate on the pillow. The room was cheerful, spacious, and clean. Mine had a wall of windows and small balcony. I was a bit concerned that it might be noisey since it faced Andrassy. However, this was not an issue. The bathroom was clean and bright as well. I liked that the room had a small safe tucked inside the armoire. Like the room, the public spaces and hallways seemed well cared for and did not show signs of wear. Throughout my stay, the staff were attentive and accomodating. The hotel offers a buffet breakfast, but I wanted something very light and I wanted to eat in my room so I could quiety prepare for my meeting. Without hesitation they prepared a beautiful fruit platter and delivered it straight away. I have already arranged to stay there on my next trip to Budapest. I am a big fan of Orco properties and this one was no exception."
"Excellent location, very central especially with the very convenient underground train. It's good to be in a very high-end residential area. Our room was not big but very well furbished, with a good shower-room. At reception, Mr. Gergo and his team was very friendly and helpful: they booked everything for us, with great efficiency. Hungarian champagne, was offered at check-in. Very calm and home feeling. Plus: absolutely try the SZECHENYI SPA near by the hotel (from hotel, just after the Hero square, 10 minutes walk, not far from the botanic garden-zoo). Avoid the Gellert Bath, it's a real mess in term of organization. Only go there if you really appreciate the architecture and historical decoration. Deception: if you want to visit the parliament, be sure to book in advance. It seems that it's only through guided tour. "
"The standard double room is a little small but very well kept. They differ in size and location depending on if you have a smoking or non-smoking so they do have larger rooms. The bathroom was new and again very clean, the robes where perfect for the a visit to the thermal baths. This hotel is located just off the main Andrassy road and is a 30min drive from Budapest airport. The main park, museums, flee market and ice skating is just a five minutes walk away and is a must see, the park also hosts the 2nd biggest thermal baths in Hungary (a great experience and cheap as chips too!) . A short 10-15 minute walk down Andrassy Road in the opposite direction leads you to some great restaurants and bars so all in all i was very pleased with the Andrassy Hotel and would stay again."
"Needing a break and wanting somewhere away from the usual horde of 'Brits Abroad', Hungary and the Andrassy Hotel were placed in our 'very shortlist'. We are already looking to go again to enjoy the courteous, efficient and genuine welcome we received. Food and wines of the highest quality, prepared and presented by knowledgeable staff. The ambience of the Andrassy is that of 'a haven in quiet waters'. Immaculate bedroom, very well serviced. Check in and check out were swift and well explained. Concierge and foyer staff were aware of who we were and anticipated our needs and desires without being in any way obsequious."
"We arrived at the hotel by subway (the oldest on the continent). A half-block walk from the stop and you're at the front door. Well, not really the front door, because that is on a quiet residential side street. The hotel restaurant and patio is on the main drag -- Andrassy Avenue, so it is easy to miss the hotel. The avenue is a true boulevard lined by embassies and leafy neighborhoods, with the city center at one end and City Park at the hotel end, Some of the best restaurants in the city are next to the park and about a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The hotel is upscale and nicely appointed. Without prodding, the front desk upgraded us to a top-floor corner room with great views of the area. The windows were amazing in that they opened about six different ways. We had a very large bathroom with a balcony! Service at the front desk was very capable and friendly. We ate at the hotel restaurant one evening ... The restaurant was quite swanky and the food top notch with prices to match. All in all, we were very pleased with the Andrassy and Budapest."
"This hotel is excellent in every way except for the rooms being a bit dull. The staff gave us free champagne at arrival because we had to wait 10 minutes for our rooms, and we had a earlier arrival than we expected to it was realyl not the hotels fault. The service was excellent all through our stay! We gave some clothes for dry clean, and the prices were not like robbing you as many hotels does. It was actually quite reasonable prices all throughout the hotel compared to all those hotels that rob you. The service at this hotel is the best and most friendly we've ever experienced. My mum were celebrating her birthday one of the days during our stay, and the staff had a big cake and champagne ready in her room when arriving back to the hotel after doing some sight-seeing. How nice is that??? Much more than we ever expected! The hotel also has a very nice lobby and a really nice restaurant. The breakfast was good. Modern and very representative decor for being a 5-star hotel in any way (exept for the rooms again). The only reason why giving it a 4-rating was because the rooms were really dull and didn't match the rest of the interiours at all. Completely different theme The rooms had wonderful terraces, but the interior seemed a bit boring and not what you expect from a 5-star hotel. It looks like done in the early 90s, very outdated and cheap. The rooms would be given a 3 star rating. Black iron around the chairs and the bed (the chairs were really uncomfortable to use), green carpet and the rooms seemed quite dark. It looked like a usual room that you would expect to find by a beach in Spain, not in the center of Budapest. It had this kind of terracotta-feeling. The hallways leading to the rooms seemed very warm and with bad moisture air, almost like in a swimming hall. The bathroom was quite large, though the colours in the bathroom also seemed a bit outdated. Renovate the rooms and this hotel is absolutely perfect!"
"Just returned from Budapest after a 3 night stay at the Andrassy Hotel. A very beautiful hotel in a prestigious area of Budapest. The staff were very friendly and could not do enough to help. The hotel was very clean and the rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated. Taxi service available outside hotel at all times. Highly recommended hotel to stay at."
"We have just returned from a three night break at the Andrassy. The Hotel was situated on one of Budapest's most elegant streets. Its location was excellent not right in the centre but only a 25 minute walk or there was a metro stop just a couple of minutes from the Hotel door, which we found very easy to use, also its just a 10 minute walk from Hero's square and a lovely park. The rooms were were bright and spotlessly clean, the staff so very friendly and we were made so very welcome from the moment we arrived. The buffet breakfast was A1 something for every one.You must go to the restaurant Gundel which is only 10 minutes away next to Hero's square."
"this hotel was a find to say the least. we had a meeting at 12:30 and arrived at 10am to find that our rooms were only availabe from noon. Not a problem for this hotel, we were handed a glass of hungarian champagne (or fizzy wine if you want to be pedantic) and sat for a pleasant 45 minutes in the lobby while our rooms were made ready. rooms were quite small but really quite luxurious and the only thing i can say is very very warm so get the central heating sorted out as soon as. shopping is cheap cheap cheap if youre a Brit, so take your credit card."
"Good quality hotel, great location, room fantastic. Would recommend to anyone thinking of spending a long weekend in Budapest.Close to underground, but within easy walking distance of the city centre. Be confident about using the underground - its cheap and easy to use. Super city but undergoing change so dont expect a Milan or Paris - but do expect great and affordable food and drink, and very helpful local people. Andrassy is one to recommend with little hesitations..."
"As mentioned in other reviews, we were offered champagne on arrival, which was a nice touch! We had a non-smoking room with a queen size bed. Very comfortable. Bathroom was huge, with lots of toiletries. The location where the hotel is situated is tranquil, very close to Heroes Square. As many Embassies are situated along the street, it's very safe with big mansions."
"The Andrassy helped to make our stay in Budapest perfect. Arriving on a wet miserable day, the hotel welcome made us feel very much at home and set the tone for the next 4 days. The service is attentive but discreet, just right, and the hotel itself is beautifully kept. The location is ideal too."
"On checking in at the hotel we were offered a glass of very nice chilled champagne which I was never offered even in a 5star London Hotel. The room was extremely comfortable, beautifully decorated, roomy and the bathroom equipped with every accessory I could wish for. The location on Andrassy Avenue is very picturesque surrounded by embassies and beautiful buildings of every description. It is perfectly located for sightseeing with Hero Square 5 minutes away and the River Danube and the Castle no more than 30 minutes walk. The staff at all times were courteous, very helpful with any "tourist" enquiries and I would totally recommend this hotel to anyone."
"A very short metro ride out of city centre, the Andrassy Hotel is perfectly located to explore lovely Budapest. Staff were charming, helpful and concerned at all times with our welfare and comfort. It lives up to it's name of "small luxury hotel of the world" and we enjoyed every minute of our stay."
"Clean, comfortable rooms, excellent staff, wonderful service, an overall great experience. Will stay here again on my next trip to Budapest."
"Our stay at the Andrassy Hotel was wonderful! The hotel was extremely clean as was our room. The hotel staff was super friendly and made you feel right at home! I would definitely recommand this hotel to anyone staying in Budapest."
"First time at the hotel which all previous reviews were correct. Very well presented hotel with excellent facilities, welcoming staff and overall a very plesant stay. Close to all sightseeing area's. Hero's square can be seen outside the hotel. Metro line just outside too."
"I was amazed by the hospitality when we arrived for our two days in Budapest staying at the Andrassy Hotel. We received glasses of Champagne during our check-in and enjoyed them in their elegant lobby. Our room was clean and large with new furniture and comfortable bed. We had a balcony with table and two chairs overlooking the Budapest embassy row. We were a short walk from museums and park and also a metro stop. We will definitely go back again and again as long as the quality stays at this level at this price!"
"We had a wornderful time at this hotel. In a quiet place near to Hero's square and in a very posh and peacefull place in Budapest. Definitly will go back to this hotel."
"Booking in was a delight, friendly staff and greeted by the manager and everyone seemed to speak english. Biggest and most annoying oversight is the lack of tea & coffee facilities in rooms that we would have expected in a luxury listed Hotel. The Baraka Restuarant provides high quality cuisine though it is pricey and a bit 'high brow' for our gentle taste buds. Breakfast provides the usual array of self service continental, cereals, fruit and limited cooked food(i.e. very salty bacon and scambled/poached eggs), but is adequate. You are not likely to be stopping for the telly, which is just as well. You could subscribe to a small number of movies but free view is limited to CNN BBC World Euronews Eurosport the rest being Hungarian or German stations. The Hotel is reasonably located (Embassy district)and we enjoyed walking to the City centre down Andrassy ut., though tram & metro facilities are nearby if speed is of the essence."
"Was dissapointed by the drabness and lack of facilities"
"The hotel was very attractive and we received a lovely welcome but the air conditioning struggled to deal with the 32 degrees heat so our room was too warm for the 3 days that we stayed there. The breakfast buffet was great and although the hotel is not near the river, it is within a short walking distance of a Metro station to take you into town. You can also easily walk to the zoo, National Museum and Szecheny Spa from the hotel. The shower head was broken in our bathroom and the maids didn't clean the bedroom whilst we were out and about during the day. Finally, there was no coffee making equipment in the room - perhaps this is standard for Budapest but it was a pain having to ring for room service all the time."
"We were very impressed with this hotel. Everything is exactly like in the photos. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The location of the hotel is great. It is in a nice quiet neighbourhood but the metro stop is close by so very easy to get around. I cant say enough about the service. We were supposed to fly back to London on August 10th and our flight was cancelled. The front desk staff spent over an hour helping us to find an alternate flight back home. Highly recommended!"
Fodor's users "If you stay here check out the Ambassador Suites. They are spacious and have jacuzzi baths. The hotel is a brisk 35 minute walk from downtown and most restaurants. When we arrived, we were then informed that the hotel restaurant was closed and that breakfast would be improvised in a couple adjoining bedrooms with catering trays, but at the same price. The staff was willing, but youthful. Training and supervision was weak. Towels and amentities were often not replenished. Room cleaning was haphazard with glasses left unwashed and untouched. Nice facility, poor management."
